Cool story from my Dad :)

I may not get along with my dad all the time, but has been a great father; there's so much I don't know about him that I'm learning about every now and then.

About 2 years ago, my family and my cousins family went on a month-long trip to Vietnam. Both our families are Vietnamese, and our parents hadn't been back in decades. Incredible experience.

My dad had $1000US in his pocket and he changed clothes to sleep. Next morning, my uncle had taken all the clothes to get them washed; in Vietnam, the laundromats wash the clothes for you, and keep in mind, they make about $100US a month.

When we got the first batch of clothes back, my dad poked around in his pocket, and slowly realized that he previously had $1000 in there. Uh oh. Everyone else was panicking, but he was completely calm. My mom looked at him and said, "The way you are so calm right now, I don't have a bad feeling about this."

So my uncle books it back to the laundromat and asks if they found any money. "Yeah, here it is!"

$1000. Nearly their annual salary's worth they handed right back to us. I can imagine what many people would do in this kind of situation.

That's really awesome. Not all cultures focus on greed like ours...

Many years ago, when I first moved over to Poland I had been there for a week when I got robbed on a train, almost all of the money I had with me, gone. I felt like crap.
Once the folks I was with found out, they took up a collection and even the neighbors who didn't even know me, pitched in to pay back what was stolen. People even brought food for me
I didn't accept it, I couldn't....
This was right after these countries kicked out the commie gov'ts and folks were near dirt poor. The fact that these people would do that for me when they're hurting themselves financially left a deep impression on me. As much as I can complain about the state of things these days, there are still a lot of good people in this world.
