So who is a musician you discovered this year. Maybe the band or musician wasnt new in 07, but you didnt discover or know about them them untill this year. That you woudl liek to nominate for coolest musician of your year.
MY Musician:
This year I was introduced by a friend to Strapping Young Lad. I would like to Nominate Devin Townsend (lead vocal and guitar) as my coolest new musician of 2007. His voice can go from HEAVY AS HELL to BROADWAY and he does it perfectly. Also he is a little twisted, which is always great in my opinion. Also Id like to nominate him for best hairdo ever. I always knew of the band but often overlooked them due to their "pop" era in the 80s and beyond (I actually dig alot of that material). I had owned Selling England By The Pound on vinyl for around half a year and liked it, but hardly ever listened to it (I have a problem with neglecting alot of the music I own). I didn't really start getting into Genesis until I picked up the rerelease of Trick of The Tail with the DVD. Progressive writing with catchy songs, a winning combination.
An honorable mention goes to Fates Warning. |

My vote? M. Ward
Amazing voice and stellar songwriting. Possibly our generations best songwriter...imo. Well, I like Iron and Wine and the Pernice Brothers too, but this guy is on another level. |

I also watch the Metal doco and understand him a lot better now, but I still don't "get" it the same way, though I am finding more metal I like.
I also took a big nostalgia trip with a lot of 80's stuff that I re-discovered.

| And that right there is why I make so many threads to talk about my love of metal. I love it when new people get introduced to metal and learn about it and the metal fans. You have made my day. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
