Well was an interesting and sad day here. My little town of Lake City, Minnesota(about an hour south of Minneapolis/St.Paul) of about 2500 people woke up to or hearing at work that there was a shooting in town. To make matters worse it was a under 30 police officer with 3 young children under 10 years of age.
On the call of a domestic dispute the 2 officers approached the house, on in the rear and one to the front door. With that the 25 year old suspect opened the front door and shot the officer in the head. He is listed in critical condition with a bullet lodged in his brain. He is responsive, not talking but squeezing his wife's hand and giving a thumbs up.
Our children were locked in school for 9hours but are thankfully safe. The suspect had reportedly committed suicide in an upstairs room and taken the cowardly way out. Just wanted to share this to everyone. I come from a small area and we don't have this kind of thing happen often so its kind of a jolt to our small town.
Just hoping this guy pulls through. Thinking of his 3 little kids that less than a week before Christmas have their Father shot in the head and no guarantees that he will make it or ever be the same "daddy" again. If you are interested you can read the story on KSTP TV - Minneapolis and St. Paul - News, Weather and Sports. You'll see the links right away as it was the news of the day in our state.
Hug your kids tight everyone because who knows what tomorrow may bring. Peace be with all my fellow TBer's and hopefully your holidays with be filled with happiness.
Your friend,
Mooch

I have a friend with a four year old who has taken to hero-worshipping a cop neighbor. She has this big photo of him in his little uniform on her desk. I told her what a brave little guy he looks like, but she really hopes he finds a less dangerous occupation.
Who could blame her?

A local sheriff deputy, a big guy in the community. He was involved in anti-gang unit stuff, but also a big volunteer for a few local sports and afterschool program here, happened to be visiting a kids house because he was worried when he stopped showing up to practice. This kid's sister, and her boyfriend were tweaking on meth, and when the boyfriend who was on probation saw this deputy walking up to their front door he went and got his gun. When he knocked on the door the boyfriend opened the door and shot him in the head point blank. Horrible stuff.
I feel for the guys family that he left behind. Especially the little children. Sad. Domestic dispute stuff is scary business. |

Our town had a big candle light vigil the other night and we had officers from across the state substitute for our cops that night so they could visit their brother in ICU.
He is still with us though and hopefully we will hear some good news soon. Make the holidays a little somber here knowing some small kids are dealing with something like this and trying to be "merry" when their father is fighting for his life. If I hear any more I will keep you posted.
A little more info on the shooter. He had a "girlfriend" in high school here she was 17. She broke up with him a couple days before and he snapped. I guess he went to the school and looked for her that day. Glad it didn't take place at the school. Could have been a lot worse. News reports say he sent he 200+ texts in a 24 hour period after the break up.
All this over a girl. What a waste.

He leaves behind a wife and 3 kids under the age of 10 years old. The family is asking for people to leave their porch lights on.
So sad...

Let's side with the family on this one about porch lights. Turn outside lights on, and consider it helpful to overall security.
