I'm having to design something that everyday people can use for my engineering class in high school. First I had to come up with a common problem and a solution. If I get a positive outcome with this survey, I will be designing this item and hopefully selling it if everything works out right in the end.
Here is a link to the question: Mailbox Survey
Thanks everyone! Every answer helps! |

We come up with an idea and them design the item and at the end of the year we give a presentation in front of many engineers at a fancy dinner. Should be fun! |

-Mike | I thought so too, but I was just trying to get my point across.
Thanks for the votes though! |

It just kind of reminds me of the 'design cycle' of the technology focus of an IB school. Carry on. |

I know in larger cities and such, this device wouldn't be very useful, but around where I live and other rural communities where mailbox's can be 100 yards away from the house or further, they could be helpful. |

I voted via FB yesterday, but I voted none the less Mitch.

-Mike | I haven't made any yet. I'm just trying to decide if this is a good idea to continue my project on. I have seen a few on Amazon listed as Mailbox Alert Systems, but they use a senor that goes off when the door is opened. I was thinking a pressure pad or something like that would be more efficient.
I'm not lazy and hate walking, but when there is sideways snowfall and 0 degree temps, I hate dressing up then walking out to the mailbox and finding nothing and having to do it all over again later in the day. |

-Mike | Exactly. The worst is when the road is solid ice and your walk home is uphill |

The make something like this already. Its a little red flag made of metal, that the mailman flips up when he puts your mail in the box. I wonder how many mailpeople (gotta be PC) actually raise that flag.
I live in a condo complex, and we have all of our mailboxes located in one place, apartment style. You know how I when my mail has arrived? I dont bother checking it until after the mailman has come by. He generally comes around 1-ish, but I dont bother checking the mail til I get home round 5:30.

I understand people in Apartments or condo's don't have much use for it. My mail comes anywhere from 12pm-4pm. And those days when you are expecting something, and you are constantly checking get annoying.
I'm just shooting out ideas on innovations or inventions ideas to see if it would make a good product to make in my class. That is why I made this survey to see if people would be interested in a product like this.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Every bit helps |
