Could you live without TV?

How would it affect you if you couldn't turn your TV on for 30 days? Would you be able to live without it? Would you feel isolated and uninformed or would it set you free?

I rarely ever watch TV. I just don't find it interesting anymore. I'll watch football, and sometimes catch an episode of PINKS but other than that I find it boring and repetitive.

Now if I could only pry myself away from the internet I could probably go out and get something done.

Haven't had TV for over 20 years. I don't miss it.
More time to practice and play music, and I like it that way.

By living without TV, do you mean a television, or some sort of cable service?

I could live without cable, but I could not live without a television.

I hardly watch TV nowadays, but I couldn't conceive life without it when I was a kid/teenager.

I could live without a personal TV... I don't know if I could live without TV anywhere, ever.

Yeah, football would be the only tough thing to give up. Perhaps some of the cool educational channels as well.

What's PINKS?

I love TV. I watch every day. It relaxes me. Yeah, there's a lot of crap on, but there are a few good shows, too.

The only thing I watch on tv are series like BSG and The Sopranos and the occasional sport event.

This is a subject on which I could write a long article.

Every serious researcher I've read says TV is unhealthy, exploitative and generally pernicious on a tremendously wide variety of criteria. The only disagreement seems to be how bad and in which ways.

The amount of effort spent on researching how to persuade and manipulate viewers largely against their wills is staggering, as are the mind-numbing results.

I have a TV and sometimes automatically tape a single quiz show so I can watch the week's eight minutes of actual daily play all at once. Other than that, I rarely have it on. Sometimes I find that there will be a rare program worth watching and I do, but not usually -- perhaps once every couple of months.

What I tell people is that if you go without TV for a couple of months and watch it again, you'd probably throw up.

When I accidentally see TV somewhere after not watching it for a couple of months, I'm amazed at how stupid, intrusive and offensive it is to me. Absolutely sickening -- literally, not for the disgusting programming, but for the aggressive use of visual and auditory "events" to calculatedly overstimulate the viewer's system.

I read.

I don't watch TV at all now that there's shows on teh intarwebz. I wait until the whole season is posted and have a marathon.

Yeah, I could do without TV, but my kids wouldn't like it at all, and they're loud.

First off, I own a 32" TV AND I have had cable modem service since 2001 that includes me having to pay for basic cable.

That said, I have not watched broadcast TV in a decade. The wife and I choose not to. We read, listen to music, surf and play video games to relax. I will admit in the last year, I've started following a couple shows via network websites.

Once TV lets you watch what you want when you want, we might consider it. Until then, we will just catch the odd show online at our convenience.

As far as news goes... I generally read about stuff 12 to 36 hours before mainstream TV news covers it.

And I don't follow sports so I have no need for TV

Could I live without TV. Let me ask my 46" LCD TV and Xbox. No, it says I could not.

Watch Free Speech TV, LINK TV....and Democracy Now! Otherwise, kill your TV and all of it's dumb-down-lowest-common-denominator programing. Make some music instead.
