Hey anyone know what my problem could be? Both Counterstrike 1.6 and HL2 (to an extent) lag. I have pings in the 40's and 50's, and no apparent spikes or anything there.
I do not get lag when the resolution is down around 1280x920 or whatever it is(widescreen). But, when I turn up to 1600 x anything it gets jerky.
I have XP Pro SP3
2.8 GHz Intel
2 GB RAM
7600GT PCI-e card
Nothing running other than Windows Live One Care, but have had same problems before installing that.
Ran Virus scan, spyware scan, defragmented, etc. No problems with anything else, but I only run these two games. Updated vid. card drivers.
What's my problem? Any console commands to try? |

Open console and type in net_graph 3
In the lower right corner there should be a little table showing your fps, ping, choke, loss, in and out, etc.
If your choke or loss is above 5 then get back to me.

Have you got the most up to date drivers for your graphics card?

Back on subject, though... Choke and loss are 0, loss ocassionally spikes to 2, but rarely. The thing is, I only get 59 fps average, and when it lags it goes down to 20 or so. But my computer should be way more than enough to handle it even with something running. (which it isn't) |

Starts at 59/60, down to 20, back up, back down. About every 2 seconds it changes. |

Since it's graphical, you may want to check out vsync. I know when I have that enabled weird things happen. Not really lag in what I'm seeing so much as mouse lag. I had to turn it off. Drove me up the wall. It's probably not what's going on here though.
I would start with the worst visual settings and see what happens when adjusting resolutions. If it doesn't happen, start introducing certain effects and then check the resolution.
I've had no problems with source games except the vsync issue. No Steam problems.
