A Couple of interesting photojournalism situations

These two situations have been the buzz all over Photographers forums the last week or so. First a Photographer got paid 30$ for a cover photo for Time Magazine through a stock photo service.

Second the NY Times magazine has admitted that a photographer "shopped" a story for them. This is a no-no in photojournalism. A couple of questions come up with this one. Doesn't the times have any staff photographers left? Why did they have to go to Portuguese photographer based in England to assign photo's of half finished American housing projects? Perhaps we'd have a few less half finished projects if they were hiring Americans to document American history as it happens?
