Yeah, I read in Wikipedia, "...according to Forbes, Vancouver had the 6th most overpriced real estate market in the world and was second-highest in North America after Los Angeles in 2007."

I'd love to live in the city, but my chances at ever owning a home here is SUPER slim.

Within a radius of 5KM of where I am sitting, there are dozens of one bedroom apartments for over a million dollars. Just because they're smaller doesn't mean they're more affordable.

Average housing prices in Canada are higher than in the US, my parents house is nice, but not huge, ~1150sqft, and it is worth $260,000 in the middle of no where Ontario. Put that house in Vancouver, it is now worth more like $2.6 million.
