1. Create the html and graphics. Web pages are simple programs. You can find how to program the HTML code using free online guides or use a program to create a page visually. The HTML language will be used to arrange the text and graphics. The graphics will have to be created with another program.

2. Set-up a host. Find someone to put the files online. You will either need to rent space on a server or find a friend who will do it free. There are some cheap hosting companies online that will only charge ~$5 a month.

Those are the basic steps. I usually start in a graphics program, create the web page visually, then cut up the image and export the pieces as smaller images. Next I write the HTML using a text editor. Finally I post it to my old college account or send it to my friend's server.

Download Kompozer and Gimp. Komposer is website development software that is freeware. Gimp is freeware that allows you to create and edit images used in your website.

Every website I've done (and I've done a few dozen now) starts with pen and paper. I put myself in the customer's shoes and ask what would be most important to a visitor arriving on my site and work out the basic navigation.

Then I draw a sketch of how I want my page to appear. Again, focus on your audience. A dark themed, flash-based page with automatically loading music would work for a band's website, but a hardware store would be better served with a clean, fast loading HTML based page. Always think of the end user first.

After that it's a matter of doing the coding. Basic principles of readability, clarity of message and consistency of theme should be observed.

Finally, check the site with several different browsers, ask web savvy friends for feedback and then register a domain name, find a host and publish it to a server.

If you need more nuts and bolts help with actually getting started, feel free to PM me.

Good luck.

1. you can find (pretty easily) a program on a search that allows you to make a website without learning coding. then find a web host.

2. you could hire someone to do it for you.
