Get a card that you only use for online buying with a low limit. I have a card with a $500 limit for buying online, it is much safer.

I feel for you with the whole credit card thing, but if a little screw up with a credit card is your worst week ever, then you are sure living one hell of a life

I had this happen last Fall with my debit card. Definitely use a credit card and not a debit card when you can. Credit card fraud won't directly drain your checking account, but debit card fraud will and in my case it took 10 business days (over two weeks since there was a bank holiday in there too) to start getting my money back.

Well other things too. My fiance told me she "doesnt feel the same anymore" and I almost had my insurance canceled. plus everything else netflix, xbox live, etc things set up to autobill pay for years I have to update now that my new card is here. And I may not have the money till monday and I have a deal pending for a bass I really wanted but with all that other stuff although it would make me hella happy to have that bass in my hands I have no idea whats coming next.

I went two years without any problems using my card off post when everyone else was weary of it, then just a month ago I was hit with some suspicious charges. I got it taken care of fast enough though. I check my account obsessively.

Sometimes it's best to buy one of the MC or VISA or AMEX 'gift cards' that can be used like a credit card - you load it up with money when it runs low at bank or whereever - WalMart does it for the gift card they sell (which is an AMEX card IIRC). If someone steals your card / number, they can only draw on what amount you've got on the card at the moment; it can't be overdrawn, etc. I've started doing that for when I need a credit card for ordering online, on the phone, etc. and am even using it now at some stores. no worries about interest, etc. either. It's worth looking into, if you have someplace where you live that issues / sells such cards.
