Who does it? I'm doing a trial day at a BJJ gym on Friday; I'm pumped! Any advice? |

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, but as iamlowsound has pointed out, you will hurt the next day

2. Understand the protocols rather than just go through workouts that people give you. The Crossfit site has an introductory PDF. It's hugely worth reading, and will give you new perspective on working out.
3. If you do it right, it will markedly increase your overall fitness level. It's great for BJJ. It's NOT designed for getting "buff" - it's not a "big fast muscle gain" protocol.
4. As stated above, prepare to hurt.

Once you get down to the 9 rep set, it is really easy fall into bad technique just trying to push through. It wont do you any good if your technique sucks. Also, start with LOW weight. I can't stress this enough, if you are fit already, grab the 20lb dumbbells, nothing more. Don't think that you will look like a wuss, the guy that grabs the 50lb ones and doesn't get the 21 rep set done is an idiot and you getting everything done with 20lb is way better than crapping out because you grabbed too much weight.

Get it sorted now and you will keep it for all the time you go to the gym, if you fall into bad habits when you start training, it can be hard to get out of them (not to mention the damage you can do to yourself).
Crossfit does quite a lot of explosive lifts such as the Snatch, these lifts can take years to master, so don't worry if you dont get it right off the bat.

I'm lifting to get into competative weightlifting (olympic-style). 'fraid I don't know anyone called Buster either. Where abouts is he from?

Then make up your own mind.
