Maybe I'm the oddball. lol There's a vocal subculture out here, for sure.
As far as biking and hiking in the mountains & trails, those details are all true.

I don't know if this is true but I've heard North Dakotans have a "neutral" accent, one that a news reporter would attempt to copy.

Especially greeting them with a happy "Good Morning, How are you this beautiful day?" when they step into the elevator. They look at me like I'm from Mars.
Macaroni Tony - We're NOT all Tide fans down here, and that proves there IS a God.
EDIT - and if you want some Alabama Music, give Wet Willie a listen. One of the most under rated bands in the rock era, IMHO.

I actually wasn't sure where they were from TBH. I was just teasing Smokin' T because it seems like no matter where you are on the planet, as soon as you hear the opening riff to that song, (and of course HAVE to say "turn it up") you think Alabama.
I was sitting in a pub one time in Prague and was pleasantly shocked when that song came on the boom box there and like 10 people in Czech accents yell "turn eet oop!" then they're singing along.. Great stuff

The best venue in the city for original music (barring stadiums) is called Freebird Live. It was operated by a band member's wife for a while and houses many memorabilia.
Others from here include Shinedown, Yellowcard, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and Evergreen Terrace

I know a few people that live in the cities, and they all talk very upper midwest just like yours truly. I've understood that the whole Lena and Ole thing is northern MN. Yeah, like there could possibly be such a thing as northern MN.......
Oh! Yah! You BETCHA!

The citizens of B.C. are really nice and the whole province is really stunning.
It's really not too far of a trip for me from here though. I really do need to get back up there soon for some biking, hiking, and general fun.

Not all of us are conservatives

Not all of us own or even know how to ride horses
Most of us don't have cowboy hats
Most of us don't drive giant trucks... Ok. A few of us don't...
We DO say "Ya'll"
Austin is indeed the place to go for hipsters outside of California
Dallas? Actually not that special. Had family there for a while. Every time I went, I always came back thinking a little worse of the city. : :
Houston? 4th largest city in the country, 2nd biggest port.
Might be a little biased here but Houston is actually pretty awesome.
Oh, and go visit San Antonio if you want some amazing scenery. The river walk there is amazing.
And the border is indeed even more dangerous than what you've heard. |

Being a retired railroader all the trestles when you drive into town I found really interesting also. Not to mention the food, which I found to be pretty damn good.

A Scottish fellow with an acoustic guitar was playing it. I stopped and sang along and told him I was from Alabama. He told me he would regularly get run off by the local police. Critics... geeze. At least he didn't say "Roll Tide' to me.
