Currency collectors, how much is this $2 bill worth?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have 40 $2 bills in my collection, and I was reading that they are pretty much just worth $2, unless they have a star note on them.

One of them does have a star note.
It's a 1976, St. Louis $2 bill.

Does anyone know if it is worth anything?

Are they uncirculated or were they used?

It's circulated.

I really don't know squat about currency, I've just been holding onto $2 bills that I've come across for a while, just because they are rare and interesting.

The majority of them are still worth $2.00, if it's been circulated at all then I can almost guarantee that you won't get anymore then $5 for it, and that's if the bill is still in great crisp condition with none or close to no wrinkles or folds. To collectors they may pay a little more for a particular bill if they want it bad enough. I have a couple that I know I could sell for upwards of $20.00 right now.

It's hard to find info on this.
Best I could find was this and a few ebay listing where they are selling for face value, or just a couple of dollars more. More if they are consecutive or have not been in circulation.

Here's an ebay listing http://shop.ebay.com/sis.html?_kw=19...S+WITH+RED+INK

Somebody list http://www.wscoin.com/index.php?v=t&tid=4 as a good source. (haven't checked it out)

I have a series 1963 (no letter) with a red seal and red serial numbers. It's been in circulation, but in good condition and still crisp.

I found all kinds of varying value on that. Best consensus I could come up with is it depends on the actual bill and if you can find a collector that wants it.

So, yeah. Subscribed.

+1, any appraisal or information on it will only give you the base price of what it should sell for. But the actual price depends on who wants it and how bad they want it. Hense why I could easily sell a couple of mine for $20-$30.

bicentennial two dollar bills are cool, but worth 2 bucks, for the most part.

You could always make the drive to Las Vegas and see what Rick can tell you. Maybe you'll make it on an episode of Pawn Stars.

Unless your bill/coin is seriously dated, (as in, pre-WWII) it's typically worth whatever the value of the currency itself is. I had a 1976 bicentennial quarter once. I had in "appraised" once, and I was told I could get 75 cents for it. Sweet, a 200% increase in value!

I kept it.

Well, I was hoping that if I could get like $15 off this $2 bill, that would be cool, but if it isn't worth much, I might as well hold onto it.

Is this a good collectible item, or just worth $2.00 like the rest?

I agree.
United States currency is so freaking drab and boring compared with the currency of some other countries.

I also hate California's license plates.
Most states get a nice graphic of some sort on their plates, California gets plain white with blue lettering.

So. It sits in your wallet all the time anyway. The only time you take it out is to give it to someone else.

In the future, US currency will be decorated with pictures of porn stars and upskirt shots.

Silver Certificates are a type of representative money printed from 1878 to 1964 in the United States as part of its circulation of paper currency. They were produced in response to silver agitation by citizens who were angered by the Fourth Coinage Act, which had effectively placed the United States on a gold standard. The certificates were initially redeemable in the same face value of silver dollar coins, and later in raw silver bullion. Since 1968 they have been redeemable only in Federal Reserve Notes and are thus obsolete, but are still valid legal tender.
