i didn't live on campus but it wouldn't have been a bad idea. if anything i would recommend living as close as possible, even if it's not campus housing. my commute to school was 30 minutes one way, not unreasonable but to far to run home for lunch, study, etc.

I did my first year of grad school.

The pros -
It was super cheap, which allowed me to buy some nice bass gear and visit my gf (now wife) in NYC.
It was convenient to get to class at a time where I was taking more classes and earlier ones.
It allowed more socializing with fellow graduate students, which was good for my first year.

The cons -
Stanford felt like I was living on a golf course.
Not a fan of the extra-long twin bed.
I had a socially-inept, freak-show of a roommate (Oprah fanatic, and I mean fanatic!).

Commuter here, for my undergrad, as well as both of my grad degrees.

I've also been a commuter for my undergrad.

There are a few things in the air regarding post grad right now tho. Depending on where i go, i might be on campus, i might not.

I lived on-campus; school was in DC, where rents were insane, but I got free housing since I worked for the res life department.
