No, not the curse the Saints supposedly held because the Superdome's construction forced the moving of a cemetary; I mean the curse of their winning season. See, as awesome as it has been for me to watch this season unfold, it brought with it a totally unforseen downside: DJ Mike's Neighbor.
Right around the Dallas game, I was minding my own business, grilling some chicken and enjoying the pregame broadcasts that my neighbors were blaring through open windows, when I heard a completely out of place broadcast. It was confusing, but when the guy on the "radio" started mentioning friends who had just pulled up and gave a shout out to his wife...cooking in the kitchen, i knew we had a problem.
Thusly, DJ Mike's Neighbor was born. He reared his ugly head with special nastiness during the playoffs. DJ Mike's Neighbor has horrible taste in music and, almost criminally, can't "DJ". After the Vikings game, I went outside to enjoy the cheers and fireworks of my neighborhood, only to have the pleasing night sounds pierced by an announcement that "this is how we do it", followed by the song of the same name.
Normally, I like having a small get together, but I had to hide my exubernace when my inlaws announced they would be having a Super Bowl party. Sure, I didn't get to cook or control the menu with something a little off the beaten path, but, win or lose, I wouldn't have to listen to DJ Mike's Neighbor blare Jock Jams well into the evening.
Congrats, Saints fans. I hope your mic breaks, DJ M N.
Mike

I think a bass player who doesn't know how to handle too-loud neighbors needs more gear.

...1000 watts, 8-10" speakers against the wall, and a good solid B string.
Got real quiet after that. Well, once the sounds of all his crap on the wall hitting the ground stopped it did.

Last Saturday the family and I returned to the house in the late afternoon after a hard day of doing jack squat all over town when the doorbell rang. I hate that ****. No one uses my front door and I'm thinking cinderblock is the only way to get that point across. Even so, I'm the moron that left the doorbell plugged in, so when it rings and the dog goes apeshit, waking the baby up, it fall squarely on my shoulders.
Well, it was my nextdoor neighbor, who isisted my family come on over and join his crawfish boil/backyard party. I'm not the kinda guy that turns down free food or beer, and we're talking CRAWFISH here, so we dropped everything and headed West.
Already there were two other families from the block over. After initial greetings and exchanges of who had common friends, it hit me. One of the guys there, the one with decent taste in beer, was DJ Mike's Neighbor.
There we were, exchanging stories and ripping small, highly-seasoned, crustaceans apart with our bare hands. It was one of life's true comic book moments. I was mere feet away from my football season nemesis and unable to put him out of my misery. During the spring and summer, we could get along; drinking and eating food we didn't pay for. But come Fall, I'd be looking for a bag of sugar to Munsen him.

| He was an annoying Saints fan . During the season, especially towards the end and into the playoffs, there were multiple parties all over my neighborhood. Everyone was cooking, drinking and playing various broadcasts of the game loud enough to be heard several houses over. DJ Mike's Neighbor had his own PA and was MCing his own parties (thus the clever name). I met him last weekend for the first time.
