Damn poison ivy...

I got this poison ivy rash on my arm around Thursday and now this damn thing has spread like the plague. Anyone have any advice on how to get rid of it faster? Probably time is the best thing for it, but God it looks disgusting.

It helps get rid of the oil, which is what causes the rash. Regular soap doesn't always get it, which is why it spreads - you scratch, the oil gets on your hand, then you touch another place and the oil gets there.

If it's really bad, like blisters, you can go to the doctor and get a shot that will help (cortisone or something).

Scratch it until your skin gets raw with something like a metal ruler. Then wipe the area with paper towells soaked in acetone yes it will sting like he'll but the acetone will dry it out. Also, scalding it with very hot water will stop the itch. AND, you can move to Florida, we have no poison ivy

I used to get really bad reactions from poison ivy and the only thing that worked for me was Sumactin. A little expensive but well worth being itch and rash free.

I've always used Calamine Lotion. It works really well.

Yes. They did this to witches in the Middle Ages.

Good calamine lotions will dry it out and keep it from spreading. If it starts to ooze, you need to dab it up, wiping it or scratching will help it to spread.

Lol! True but if you have really itchy poison ivy, it actually feels good.

thankfully, I've always been immune to it and poison sumac both.

But if it's really bad--I know they have a shot of some sort for it. And keep your hands AWAY FROM YOUR EYES!

Ivy Dry will really dry it out, but don't overuse it, or your skin will hurt, it will be so dry. To relieve some of the itch, get in the shower and let the water (as hot as you can tolerate) hit your arms. Do it for 5 or 10 minutes. Helps.

I love the woods, but when I get poison ivy, I REALLY get it. My arms were a mess last 4th of July, and for a couple weeks.

I was super allergic and have the scars to prove it. It only spreads, as stated, from the original plant oils, not the crap that oozes out. Make sure the clothes you had on are cleaned with hot water and soap including the shoes which are a main source of spreading.

I got Pregnisone (spelling) shots but was only aloud 3 per year as the steroids are no bueno for your liver I believe.

Find a friend with a swimming pool as the light dose chlorine will help (do NOT use bleach) as will neosporin or any antibac first aid type cream.

good luck.....at least it doesn't put you in the hospital like it did me and few other unlucky friends of mine.

as for the plant i am fortunate enough to not be allergic.

it made for some awesome pranks and general meanness in my high school days.

I just got over having it between my fingers something fierce! I had huge bubbles the size of grapes between my fingers for about a week and a half. I went to the Dr. and got some steroids and it cleared it up pretty fast. I hated not being able to play my bass!

Yeah go to the doctor, they gave me an ointment which halts poison ivy and removes in within three days. Every time.

And I get it baaaad too, the first outbreak occured on both arms, my leg, neck, and ...other less convenient places (NOT FUN). But I went to the doctor, and he gave me like eight tubes of this ointment which has saved me numerous times since then.

I bought a bottle of that Tecnu Extreme that someone else suggested. I used a brillow pad to scrub it and then sprayed break cleaner on it. The break cleaner stung like hell, but at least it dosn't itch anymore. Hopefully the Tecnu plus my own remedies will clear it up fast.
