That's what happens when ya spend 20 yrs sitting in a wheelhouse chainsmoking and downing energy drinks like they were your last hydration resort while stressing over quotas. Sad to see, but unhealthy lifestyle choices & age eventually take their toll.

RIP Phil, and let this be an example to the rest of his crew & the fleet.

This is true. The coughing up blood, smoking, etc. It's all bad. I get that it's a killer job, but you have to live - and die - with your choices. I hope the boys learn from their father.

+1 He was only 2 years older than I am I never smoked cigs and I quit all the other bad habbits about 15 years ago. Not much stress as a knifemaker Hopefully it will pay off.

RIP Phil

Live hard - Die young

The ocean is dotted with out of shape fishermen.
The thing thats a bummer is by getting on that show, it was like he won the lottery.

He was a TV star - he could have taken advantage of all of the perks that come along with it. (money, hot groupie chicks, ect). If he would have taken better care of himself.

Ugh. What a bummer. He definitely lived hard, hopefully his crew don't follow in his footsteps. Fish on Phil. RIP.

Bummer. He was my favorite guy on the show. After watching him survive last season, I figured nothing could bring him down.

He was always sick, plus the smoking, booze, energy drinks, stress, etc. couldnt have helped any.

RIP Phil, I love the show, and of course, theyll always remember you!

I've never watched the show, but a few months ago we were in a furniture store and he and his crew were in there signing autographs. He seemed like a really nice guy and seemed genuinely suprised that people wanted to meet him. It was kinda funny that when any of his crew swore, he would give them a really dirty look and they would apologize real quick!
