So is it not normal to be 17 and a virgin?

I think it's a good thing. Especially after seeing the teen pregnancy stats in Denver.

I think it's a good thing. Trying not to get into the political/religious sphere, but the argument that giving out condoms on campus promotes teenage promiscuity ignores the fact that a lot of teenagers are going to be promiscuous anyway, and at least giving out condoms on campus promotes SAFETY.

We get them at college all the time. They even sell them in the bookstore here.

Turning a blind eye to teens having sex will cause more harm than good. Hopefully they'll stop only preaching abstinence and will start to go more in depth about safe sex, too.

Pfft, they gave them out free like every month up @ UF. There was always a "Safe sex" seminar or kiosk or whatever like that set up in or around The Hub or the Rietz or in the dorms or something. My buddy came back from one of the ones in the dorm with one of those big ziplock bags full of rubbers, it was pretty awesome, he became the floor rubber passer outter.

you have to wait until a seminar to get free ones? Hell, I can simply walk up to the medical center and grab some any day of the week.

As others have stated, without getting religious, thats a great thing! Kids are going to have sex no matter what you attempt to teach them, and if they are going to do it, they may as well wrap it up. A lot of kids are embarrassed to buy condoms, giving even more reason for them to do the horizontal shuffle without a rubber. I have been taking advantage of my universities free condoms for all four years. They're expensive otherwise. I was once dating a feminist girl who (i forget through which organization) got a box of maybe 5000 condoms and had a condom party. It was a good time for all.

It's only effective if they actually use them. Honestly I don't see something like this actually helping - it's not like condoms are some hugely expensive burden.

About damn time.

They need them way more in Pueblo though. And teach kids to actually use them as well.

Unless the teens in America are way, way different than teens in everywhere else, I'd say that not having to buy rubbers from the grocery store or farmacist is a huge relief.
Speaking from (past) personal experience only of course

Sam

Condoms are VERY expensive for students.
Around here they are dispenders in every high school, college and university, you can also get them for free at the infirmary of the school.
It's been this way for years and I can't think of a single reason why this would be a bad idea.
Contraceptives pills are free for girls too and sadly yeah, even abortion that can be performed for free without the parents' advice. Even this last point is a good thing for me.

That's a function of how often you're getting it on.

Anyway, yeah it's a good thing. Still, there needs to be more and better sex education so that people will realize the importance of the condoms in the first place. Making females feel empowered to demand the use of condoms is also key, IMO.

Do they advertise for contraception on MTV and any channel the kids find hip these days in USA, or do purity leagues get all in arms about their kids actually knowing something more than bees and flowers?
