Depressing/Tragic movies?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just finished watching Requiem For A Dream and needless to say I was blown away. It's refreshing to see a movie where the ending isn't always pretty. Can you guys recommend other good movies that are depressing and dark?

Thanks

Hotaru no Haka (AKA "Grave of the Fireflies") is a fairly tragic movie about the suffering of Japanese civilians during World War 2. It focuses primarily on two orphans. Its really powerful.

"The Comebacks". Now that was a depressing movie! How can someone so funny, star in a movie so stupid?

Boys Don't Cry - No, that's not a veiled joke at the OP - that movie is depressing and dark.

The Deliverance

David Lynch's Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart

Easy Rider

Life is Beautiful

Trainspotting

There's more rolling around in my head, but I cannot recall the titles.

Gus Van Sant's "Gerry", starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. You might like it if you enjoy......waiting..............a really...................long .....................time.............for something............to........................... ...happen...........

And it never does.

Proof that having IFC in your cable package isn't always a good thing.

Oh yeah.... "Monster" is pretty depressing.

Pan's Labrynth I didn't find depressing. I enjoyed that one a lot.

Watched The Mist tonight, it was a pretty boring/stock suspense flick until the very end, which was pretty shocking and depressing. Kind of makes you see the whole movie in a different way.

"Fail Safe"... a Cold War-era film about the prospect of total nuclear destruction. It's very suspenseful, and the ending is pretty depressing.
