It's true. I saw a clip of the comment this morning.
(EDIT: Here's a link to the story. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/golf/...an-tiger_N.htm)
I'm a big golf fan and I watch a lot of Golf Channel, and I think Kelly Tilghman is terrible as the lead play-by-play person on their tournament telecasts. The Golf Channel should use this incident as an excuse to fire her. And hire me.

Lynching is violence inflicted upon one person by a mob of people. Historically, it was most commonly a mob of white people killing a black person. It became more prevalent in the United States after the rise of Ku Klux Klan. Hanging people from trees and what not.
So, you can see why that was such a bad choice of words on Kelly Tilghman's part.

This is hardly the racially charged comment that they are making it out to be. To lynch simply means to put to death, usually by a mob. Just because blacks were once regularly lynched, it does not mean that one can only lynch a black person. This is simply a case of poor word choice as a result of an assumed incorrect connotation.

Yeah, but when you put it in the context of Tiger Woods being the only black golfer on the Tour, it looks a little different. I don't think she said it in a hateful or racist way. It was just a really bad slip of the tongue in the heat of live television. I still think they should fire her, though. She's just not good at her job.

Anyone hear Hillary Clinton's statement on the Today Show yesterday, that Obama hasn't done the 'spade work' necessary to be president?

Odd choice of words...

Hmm.

I understand the joke she was making. Wanna be as good as him? Bump him off and take his place. She coulda made a funny Sopranos reference and have Tiger whacked, but then Italians would get outraged for the implied Italian-mafia reference. I don't like golf, I don't play golf, so I dunno if she really is as bad an announcer as Dave Siff believes, so I dunno if she needs to lose her job in general or not. I guess that all depends on, is she hot?

Sometimes, a joke is supposed to be funny. Sometimes, people read into things far too deeply just to stir the pot and maybe win a lawsuit. I think this is such a case.

It was a joke, people.

Now post some socks, darnit.

She is quite warm, if not hot. But, she plays from the ladies' tees, if ya know what I mean..
Again, I don't think there was racist intent behind her comment. But, using the word "lynch" when referring to the only black golfer.. there's a lot of other words she could have chosen.

Who here can say they have never innocently said something, only to realise that if taken a certain way it could be considered inappropriate and offensive? Tiger Woods supposedly has not taken issue with it, and therefore neither should anyone else.

Whacked, sniped, assassinated, carbombed, tricked into entering the Blue Oyster Bar in Police Academy....

I'm only taking issue with it because I can't stand Kelly Tilghman.

Apparently, only Rush Limbaugh heard it. All the bloggers are using him as their source. I just watched the entire Hillary Clinton interview with Matt Lauer, and she didn't say that. So, I watched it again, just to be sure. She still didn't say it. Maybe 'ol Rush has the outtakes, or something.
If she did, in fact, say it, then she should never be allowed back on the Golf Channel.

Who is this Kelly Tilghman? Is she the one here kissing the trophy she won?

No, I actually saw someone post it on another forum way before Rush was on the air, right when it happened. Something like, "OMG, did you hear what Clinton just said on the Today Show!?!"

ETA: And I actually heard the clip.

Maybe I need to listen to the interview backwards, or something. Like a Led Zeppelin album.
