Remember the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey (and the sequel, 2010)? The scenes where Dave Bowman enters the magnetic anomaly ("My God! It's full of stars!") and returns as the "Star Child" - recognisably still the same identity, but somehow transformed and inexplicably endowed with incomprehensible power...?

I don't get it. We're talking about john turner, not science fiction dorkdom.
