Question Did you ever follow advice that went against what *you* wanted to do?

99% of the time, people seeking advice only do so because in reality, they want to confirm with others what they want to do anyway. In most of these cases, it's blatantly obvious that what that person wants to do is wrong/stupid, but despite smart advice stating the opposite, that person ends up doing what he/she initially wanted to do regardless.

Did anybody ever actually follow advice that was posted on a msg board such as this despite it going against what they initially wanted to do?

In the end was it sage advice or do you regret following it?

My favorite here is "what cheap, reliable car should I get?" After hundreds of Honda/Toyota recommendations and a few suggestions by guys who are just huge fans of what's in their driveway regardless of the question, the OP will end up posting "I went with a Chrysler LeBaron cuz I luvs me a convertible LOLZ".

If you want a piece of crap because you think your taste trumps statitical reliability, don't ask for advice.

To paraphrase, people rarely follow advice if it goes against what they initially wanted to do in the first place.

Wondering if anybody here ever followed the advice regardless of their initial intent.

When I was looking to buy a synthesizer I had my heart set on a microKorg. The producer my abnd was working with suggested a novation XioSynth, and after messing with it for just a couple minutes my mind was changed. Though, that wasnt a message board.

I should have followed some of the advices from here instead of going my way.

TB has spoken!

Well, I've seen people try to influence OP's on here. "Get this bass in this color." However, those that ask for 'forum' advice have already welcomed it, or opened the door!

Have I mentioned-I followed my parents advice quite a bit, as a kid. You know, do this or you don't get your allowance, or other pressure...
