Different coffee buzz: french press vs. espresso

Sign in to disble this ad
So, i recently got an espresso machine and have been using it quite frequently. I havent done any scientific studies of myself, but for some reason, when i drink french pressed coffee compared to a comparable amount of espresso (measured by bean, not liquid coffee); the french press gives me an anxious jittery buzz, where as the espresso does not. Any coffee geeks have any insight as to why this is? I kinda wish i hadnt opened the door to the world of espresso, now it makes me wana buy a decent espresso machine.

That's because you drink espresso in 2oz shots and french press in larger cups. You get more caffeine from a serving from french press or a serving of drip than you do from a serving of espresso even though espresso has more caffeine ounce-for-ounce. French press will typically have more caffeine than drip coffee ounce-for-ounce due to the larger amounts of particulates.

Is it a true espresso machine, or a double strength coffee machine? True espresso rigs are pretty pricey...

counterpoint

I've been told that espresso has lower caffeine content because the water passes through the grounds much faster. I will say that I have to be careful how much French-pressed I do or I am a SPAZ; espresso, not so much. It's quite possible that I'm totally brainwashed.
