My brother and I were kicking around the idea to dig a pool for my parents in their backyard.
We have access to heavy machinery (my brother is a fireman and knows people with equipment)
Anyone ever do it? |

Check on permits and have all of the utilitys (also leach fields / septic systems) located before you start digging.
...And expect there to be some issue to deal with. Tree roots, construction backfill, big rocks, ect... There's always something when it comes to excavation. |

You can't just pour concrete, you'll have to mold it somehow but i suck at anything related to concrete. Then I would assume that you'll either have to spray the concrete with something or line it with a liner. Since concrete is porous.
nortonrider is correct... dirt is expensive to haul away. I'll take it if you can get it to central IL
I would suggest an above ground pool then build a deck around it.

Use duct tape.
Just line the hole, and fill it. |

Try to make it a suprise. Wait until they go away for a weekend and have at it.
Make sure to get a picture of the look on their faces when they return.
