Digital camera recommendations

Can anyone guide me as regards a decent digital camera for under $200? Looking for good pic quality (of course) HD, if possible, Stabilization, takes good pics in less than ideal light situations. Or as close to that as you can get. Want to take good pictures of my equipment (and a bunch of other stuff) for security (insurance) purposes. And for fun as well.

Do you want something that's snap and go or a do you want a legit camera? For snap and go Nikon has some decent stuff that can be had for cheap, but you'll usually be giving up either quality or zooming capabilities. For something more legit I'd save up $500-$700 and get a Canon Rebel XS or similar. My girlfriend uses one and her photos are fantastic. It also helps that she has an eye for that sort of thing, too

I use a Nikon DSLR, but for small point-and-shoots, I think Canon's got the market beat. I'd highly recommend you take a look at Canon's line and get the best one you can afford.

Canon has good stuff, Panasonic does too.

Those are the two companies I'd look at for point and shoots.

Thanks all. Just looking for a point and shoot, nuthin' fancy, that I can use with my pC running Vista home premium. I was thinking of a Nikon Coolpix, but I wanted to see what other brands might do.

I've been using a Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS for about the last year. It got very good reviews for it's category and it does the point and shoot thing very well.

Get the one that my bride-to-be found: Pentax Optio M50 (8.0 Megapixels). It is GREAT! And, it's recently discontinued and now within your reach...

I've got a high-end Nikon, and a Canon SD1100 IS.

I got my kid a Nikon Cool Pix (don't know model number) and it takes suprisingly good pictures.

Can't recommend a Canon SD series enough. Bought my mom an SD200 way back in the day, I have an SD600, and inherited another that a friend dumped in beer. I dried it out and keep it in my car just in case. Bought my brother an SD1100IS. Recommended a neighbor a similar model and they all love them.

Canon's warranties are great too, mine's been in the shop because I got sand in the lens mechanism (entirely my fault, fixed free of charge) and the cameras take a beating and still shoot great photos.

I primarily shoot with a Canon DSLR, but it's a lot easier to keep the SD in my pocket.

Though I will admit, that my iPhone 4 has begun to take it's place in my pocket, but I'm sure you don't want a camera that comes with a contract.

Thanks. I've been checking out the Canon SD's, They look the likeliest. One more question. Do these usually come with some kind of simple photo editing software and a USB cable?

I know very little about photography, but recently i felt the impulse to start some way..........

Under recommendations of friends, i bought a Fujifilm F200 EXR.
In my opinion, and with the limitations of being a compact camera, i'm very satisfied.

In particular, it has a mode which is very effective when using for taking shoots from stages, by night (obviously without the flash).

A few examples:
