Diners and coffee in Portland, OR?
Hey Portland people I'm in town for the weekend finishing up some vocal tracks and wondering about good diners and coffee places? And greasy spoon Mexican joints too. As far as vicinity goes I'm staying in Vancouver at SE Mill Plain and 205 and working at Permapress behind Centaur Guitars but if the place is really killer I'll make the pilgrimage further.
Stumptown Coffee. I'll drive two hours to get some.
They ain't exactly diners - but I recommend:
Le Bistro Montage
The Original Pancake House is most excellent, it is also the original location. Go early and be prepared to wait.
Hotcake House on powell and Dot's Cafe on SE Clinton
Stumptown coffee IS the best. I got some for a gift once and it was so amazing!!
From the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives TV Show website - They have featured:
Blueplate Lunch Counter & Soda Fountain
Pine State Biscuits
Podnah's Pit BBQ
Otto's Sausage Kitchen
Areleta Library Bakery Cafe
If you have not seen the show on the Food Network, it features cool little places recommended by locals that are then visited by the host of the show - a chef. To get on the show, they all must have some amazing food.
Speaking of triple D, check out Salvador Molly's. Adam from Man vs. Food ate there. Those spicy fritters are amazing, if you like hot food.
Thanks guys. Stumptown and Dot's are killing. Portland has a real nice neighborhood cafe culture you could spend some time getting to know. I like this city a lot.
Stumptown might be the best coffee ever.
Make sure you take a minute to check out Centuar. They have some cool stuff in there. It's right next door to Collective Awakenings, one of my favorite places to frequent.;)
The Hair Bender is one of their more popular roasts and rightfully so, it is awesome. Yet I have found many of their single origins to be equally or more amazing. I am so looking forward to a Portland day trip when we get home.
I play PS3 golf every Sunday with my buddy. We drink copious amounts of coffee.
He nearly had a stroke a few years ago, just kind of let out a death gasp and his eyes rolled up into his head. I gave him a shake while dialing 911 with my free hand and he came to.
My (adult) son yelled "Are you guys drinking that Hair Puller stuff!?!"
Yes, it's good! It was a godsend when some grocery stores (New Seasons, Whole Paycheck) started carrying it so I needn't drive across town for a fix.
I'm throwing the curve....
Heart Coffee,, Burnside.
CHA CHA CHA on Hawthorne... that's some good mexican.
Black Tiger Shake at the old owners on Peoples coffee on Killingsworth. AMAZING coffee shake.
+1 to Otto's sausages.. On the cheap cooked out front... AMAZING ..
I just made a cup of Black Tiger coffee. Sipping it right now, no kidding. I love the Coffee People. Good coffee, no backtalk.
Where is that location on Killingsworth? By PCC?
I'm sorry I was wrong,,,
Jim and Patty's on Fremont around 21st.
These are the original owners of coffee people a shop that sold out to Starbucks. I believe there is only the one at the airport now. There used to be 7-8 of them in pdx.
They maintained the rights to their biggest seller ,, black tiger. And still sell the shake like they used to,, yummy!
Nice. On my list for the next PDX trip. Thank you.
