Dining in Cincinnati OH

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm off to Cincinnati for a few days on business. Where to eat in Cincy?

I'll actually be staying in Blue Ash, OH, and am definitely looking to track down a Skyline Chili (it looks like there's one a half mile from my hotel) but what else do I need to eat?

Do NOT... I repeat DO NOT eat at skyline chili... stuff's nasty no matter what anyone tells you to the contrary.

What do you recommend? I was thinking 3-way chili. Maybe even a 4-way or 5-way.

well, i always go with a 3-way, but you can go 4-way onions or beans, or 5-way with both. i dont like onions or beans so i just get the 3. you also might want to try some coneys, hot dogs with mustard, chili, onions and fresh shredded cheese. or you could try a salad.

Skyline Chili and Graeter's Ice Cream are the must-hits. I'm waiting for jive to come in and recommend White Castle – if you thought Skyline needed tums, just wait for the sliders. Steak and Shake is a good chain, modeled in classic diner style, famous for their steakburgers and shakes. UDF (United Dairy Farmers), also a gas station, makes the best vanilla shakes and malts I've ever had.

I've never been impressed by Montgomery Inn. They thrive off their name alone. Likewise, many locals will point you to LaRosa's (pizza). Stay away, or, if you must, try to ask them to go light on the sauce.

Too bad you couldn't come up to Columbus. We have the best hamburger joint in Ohio.

We've got a White Castle two miles from the office, and my stomach used to be immune to that stuff. Nowadays I'd much rather avoid it, but can't pass it up entirely. I'll pop in for two or three sliders from time to time and will only feel the ill affects for a few hours.

I guess I'm losing my conditioning to awful, awful food.

Since you are in Blue Ash, right by your hotel check out Through the Garden. They are on the corner of Creek and Kenwood. They are a nice American Bistro restaurant. Also on Creek 100 yards away from Through the Garden is a great burger joint called Sammy's. Otherwise, everything is fast food or chains. PM me and maybe we can get together. I live close.

+1 to Skyline being nasty (where's the vomit smilie?). If you want some real chili, come over to KY and find a Dixie Chili. Yum.
Montgomery Inn, Graeters, Hofbrauhaus... all excellent suggestions.
You ought to try this little spot: http://www.takethecakecincinnati.com/#home
Menu is changed daily but it's always excellent!

Blender, while you're in OH, you should try to make it out to visit Pete Skjold. He's a bit further east of columbus, but I hear the shop tour is pretty cool.
