This needs to win the Random Thread of 2008 award.

Still confused by why you're asking, I'm going to say no...unless it's just you and the wife and she burned dinner.

I don't understand why this is even a question.

It's NEVER appropriate to administer corporal punishment.

"Safe Sane and Consensual".

(or better yet, "R.A.C.K." for those in the know. )

As long as it's between consenting adults, the dinner table is as good a place as any.

no punishment should be administered in public.

if your children aren't behaving in public you're not doing your job.

+1

If you need to inflict pain on your child to teach them something, I don't think you should have children.

he didn't say during dinner. there is nothing in what MM said that implies during dinner. the house could be empty during said corporal punishment.

In that case, no. You wouldn't want to eat off of what you just gave "punishment" on.

Thats just plain sick.

Corporal punishment is not necessary to train/teach/educate children.

The only thing you teach with c.p. is fear and intimidation.

If c.p. was an effective teaching tool, all schools for all ages would use it.

40 ton whales are taught without c.p. So you're saying a 40lb kid needs it?

If it's appropriate for a young John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever it certainly should be appropriate for the rest of us.

Best post in the thread, easily. And possibly the most sensible.
