Disc Golfing. :D

Opinions of disc golfing?
Tips?
Just want to rant about disc golfing?
I bought a Innova Champion Groove, today. Did not consider the fact that it was green.. It's been a few years.. It's like starting over again and I wasn't that good to begin with. I think I'm going to trade it for a much lighter one.. preferably not a green one.

My older brother does it, never tried it. But I've seen him play it and it looks fun.

Grooves definitely aren't the best discs for beginners. You got to really whip the crap out of them to get them to go straight, but once you figure it out they are decent.

For beginners, I highly suggest getting a starter pack with a Stingray, Leopard, and some sort of putter. They tend to be the easiest for newer players to control.

I currently have around 20 discs (most of which I've found in lakes lol), but my main ones are a Viking, Valkyrie, Stingray, Champion Wraith, Champion Boss, and some no name putter a friend gave me.

I do it with my friends occasionally but I can't throw a frisbee with any accuracy at all so it's slightly less fun...lol

Yeah, one thing I should have known by now was to not get a green disc, but it has orange on it too so I didn't think I'd lose it, but I spent waaay too much time looking for it, today. Definitely going to trade it.

A good bit of advice for beginners is to look on the Innova website here: Innova Disc Golf | The Choice of Champions and familiarize yourself with the different discs, flight patterns, phrases and such before buying any discs and try to really study what more experienced players do. A level hand and control will do wonders with most discs these days.

I have serious issues with accuracy, too. In part because up until now I've always used friends discs and it's hard to adjust to them, and in part because I have a short attention span. Lol. It's all good, though. You'll get better with practice. Just remember that everyone started out the same way.

Well, I'm not exactly a begginer. I've been playing off and on for about 6 years now, but this past year or so I didn't really get to go out much. I used to always play with a Dragon or a Valkrie my friend had and I liked them a lot, so that's why I went with a faster driver.. but I suppose I should've known better. I'll get something a bit slower. ^_^

What it comes down to is knowing how to throw properly. Disc golf discs are nothing like your typical ultimate discs, and the throw you use is also vastly different. In fact, it's so different that when it's ultimate season I won't even go disc golfing because I don't want to mess up my throw.

Another thing to note is that each type of disc does have its own unique flight pattern, but unless you can throw properly it's not going to follow the pattern at all. It's important to start out with lightweight beginner discs so that you can practice your throw and learn the subtle differences in each grip and disc.

I've done it with friends a couple of times, but it seems a tad boring. Plus, only people I've seen playing are guys in their 20s and 30s and somewhat out of shape. Now, instead of disc golf, I figure I might begin dancing classes..

I play disc all the time. For beginners and intermediate players I would HIGHLY recommend the discraft Nuke SS or Sidewinder SS. The SS series are all under stable and don't tend to do the hard left turn if released a little off. The above mentioned drivers are fast straight flyers and will definitely get rid of any frustration that arises from just starting out.

Yes, no one axed for disc selection advice but I gave it away anyhow.

It's a great sport, it can be very laid back (the stereotypical 'stoner sport' ) but you can be competitive if you want to. My personal favorite disc is a pro wraith, although I may pick up a champion wraith to see if I like the different plastic better. Get yourself a decent putter or midrange, because putting with a driver can be a pain (they tend to turn sideways and roll more easily than a putter).

Also, pay attention to your feet when you throw. I've known a few players who could get a good throw from a standstill, but most develop their own sort of run-up or cross step type of thing. It can take a lot of practice, but it can help your throw dramatically.

Also learn to keep your weight forward when you throw.

All good advice. I've been seriously working on my form and last night I played 3 different rounds. I played the Blue and Black tees at a park called Brewer, around here and then I played at a smaller park called Garfield. By the end of the day I wasn't doing too bad.

My form only really started coming together earlier this summer. I've gained about 50-60 yards to my throw
