The DIY/Handyman thread...

Any Handy guys around? Ones that enjoy fixing up their house and building stuff?

Over the weekend I built a work bench for my new house. Came out very nice. Found some examples online and just made one work. Added a second shelf on the top for my toolboxes and such...

Before I moved in i replaced all the light fixtures, tiled the kitchen, small bath, and laundry room. What a pain in the rear...i dont know if i'll do that again.

Next i'll probbaly re-locate to light switches that are in stupid locations...

Post some projects! Good reviews on tools that are a must have would also be great...

I have remodelled just about every room in my house, demoed and expanded my bathroom, and will be rebuilding my back porch into a mudroom / more storage in the spring as well as replacing my windows, that is an easy job.

I am also currently building a cabin in my Brother-in-law's garage, for a plot of land he purchased up in Maine. We're building all the exterior framing wall in sections and will trailer it up there and build the floor on site...then put up the trusses and let the Amish roof it.

Yeah, I like building. Now, electrical...no thanks.

I guess I can classify myself as a handyman now that I am no longer employed as a carpenter. I put in 550 sqft of hardwood this spring and repainted more than half of the up stairs. I also did a complete basement reno for a friend (got paid for that one).

Count me in. Our home looks nothing like it did the day we bought it, inside and out.

I seem to go through these phases where I am really amped about doing projects, then there are times when I can't even be bothered to nail up a piece of trim to finish one.

I'm at a point in life where I don't go looking for projects anymore (and yet they still find me). On the other hand my son gave us two light fixtures this year as Xmas gifts and installed them for us himself. I may be loosing my enthusiasm for the role but it looks like I have spawned the next generation of handyman.
