DNA Exonerates Man after 35 years in Prison

I am happy that this man lived to see his name cleared. He is going to get $1.75 million because Florida law gives a person $50,000 for each year of wrongful conviction. I hope his lawyers connect him to a good financial planner so he doesn't lose all of his money.

Seems like he's taking it okay, and he looks pretty good after 35 years of prison!

He grew up in prison, so I guess he learned to hang. Most folks in that situation say they are not bitter. When you think about, he would be dead by now, or he would have committed some other crime in prison that would have kept him there for life in he had become bitter. Forgiveness is really about personal survival. Any benefit to the guilty is often incidental.

50k per year is obviously not enough. I wonder how they came up with that number.

It could be more, but Florida is much better than many stay that say "go home," and offer nothing. I just hope they offer some counseling and financial planning because this man has never really lived as an adult on his own.

It's a safe bet that he is institutionalized after 35 years of incarceration. Although I'm not religious myself; it is nice to see that he never lost his faith. I imagine prison is a very different experience when you know you are innocent. Faith is what brought him through that. Faith that justice would be eventually be served is probably what kept him alive and kept him from committing that crime behind bars that locked him up for life.

Congrats to Mr. Bain. I wish him nothing but the best.

"Mr. Bain, I'm now signing the order," Yancey said. "You're a free man. Congratulations."
congratulations? CONGRATULATIONS???!! he didn't win the damn lottery. i would think something other than "congratulations" would have been in order. maybe an apology?

Well Im sure that wasnt the judge who put him away, and if I were him (the judge) I wouldnt want to make an apology on behalf of the people who did. Though, I agree he is entitled much more than Congratulations.

Oh whoops. I thought Icon was being sarcastic. I laughed because I figured he wouldn't want to waste anymore time in his life (not saying that college is a waste of time) just saying that's all. [/backpedal]

That is exactly how I took it, and I
am inclined to agree.
