Do any of you take high blood pressure meds?

I just turned 20 and my blood pressure averages 140/70. I eat great, go to the gym regularly, pretty buff, but I can't get my blood pressure to go down. I see overweight women with a better systolic pressure than me, it's wierd. My doctor and I figured it was genetics because I don't drink caffeine, I don't salt my foods, I don't drink sodas, and my sodium intake is fairly low. My mom was diagnosed with high blood pressure when she was in her late 40s, she didn't have it before then.

I had some bloodwork done after my doctor appointment and the results came back normal.

I just want to know if blood pressure meds are bad if taken moderatley. If you have any suggestions to help me out that would help alot! Thanks!

I'm 32 and my BP has been 130-140/70-80 for the last while. Doc told me anything around 135 or less is OK.

I wouldn't sweat it. My BP has gone as high as 160 at the doctors office. I get nervous and don't like needles.

If you want your BP to lower, take a Fish Oil supplement.

God Bless, Ray

There are plenty of BP meds on the market that have pretty low side effects and should be fine for a person of your age and BP.

What's the ratio of cardio/weights at the gym? More cardio is always helpful.

My dad got it when he was 18. I had it when I was 18 (weird!) but that was from living off of high sodium crap. Once I started eating better things got ok.

It could be a little bit from nerves, I know I always feel a little anxious when they're taking my bp.

40-45 minutes of cardio and about 25-30 minutes of weights.

I think it has a lot to do with nerves. I think about stuff a lot and it gets my heart rate going. Is being nervous and getting high blood pressure that way, bad?

Been taking one pill per day for 10+ years, since I turned 50. No sweat.

Work with your doctor - you probably have no issue. Anyone's BP can go up for a while. But if you really do have something going on, get your advice from the doc, NOT from a bass forum.
