I was just reading through the 1000 Reasons To Date A Bass Player thread and a bunch of people were commenting on how cats always love them. I have the same experience and I thought this would make an interesting thread. Do cats love you? Any interesting stories?

but I love them. I told my wife I couldn't be happy in a home without a cat. she's Chinese and started off, could not stand them. now, however, she secretly loves ours.... ...

Cats almost always like me, even ones that aren't necessarily supposed to be all that friendly. I think it helps to understand them, though, and some people don't; I think mostly because they just don't feel like going to the trouble. |

everytime i move there is this random cat that appears, then a bunch of little ones appear.
I think it would make most people panic, i simple enjoy watching the little guys play, and having a great time with brothers and sisters and not getting broken apart at a young age.
I feed them they are happy, my indoor cat gets jealous.
just trapped 18 cats and had them all fixed and then put them back in my yard. took me 2 nights of trapping and some sneaky moves to catch the last 3 smart ones.
dear god i have become "that" crazy cat guy......so what, they are cute and all mine..... muah hah hah |

The cat my previous GF left me, doesn't hate me, except when I clean mud and dirt off her paws.
Judging by the claws, teeth, hissing and groaning, it's not love she's feeling.
IME, cats are incapable of loving humans, but we do make decent pets for them. At best they tolerate us and if they want something, they act as they might be considered to love us from our viewpoint.

Treat a dog well, they see you as a king.
Treat a cat well, they think they are a king.
I had a cat, never again. I like a loyal animal as a pet. |

I have two at home who just turned eight years old, a brother & sister - Rufus & Chi-Chi - whom I adopted when they were barely eight weeks old. We have totally bonded. They adore me - and I adore them too.
Some years ago when I lived in California, one day I paid an official visit to a girl from my church. Within two minutes of my arrival, her cat came into the living room, made a beeline for me...and jumped right into my lap - as if we'd been buddies for years!
The girl was astonished; said her cat was generally very stand-offish around people, and had never done anything like that before in her life. Guess I've just got the Kitty Karma...

My last one was actually pretty young when she got poisoned by a nearby farmer, made me sad as hell. Always loved 'em, and will even have them come near me even when they are not friendly.

It cracks my wife up sometimes at how I always tend to "make friends" with any dog or cat we come across. At home, my dog and cat follow me everywhere.

The Siamese on the other hand are mostly aloof and condescending in their attitude and outlook, but very affectionate when they choose to be.
Wouldn't be without 'em.

MM | I had a similar experience in Holland last summer. I was sitting outside at a table drinking coffee with my friend's mother. We started talking about cats and dogs for some reason. Suddenly, her male cat appeared on the fence. I mentioned that I liked both cats and dogs, but liked cats better than dogs. The cat immediately jumped down off the fence, trotted over and jumped into my lap. The owner said this was not characteristic behavior for him at all. He was not known for being an affectionate cat and the deep scar in the middle of his forehead made this all the more believable. What was even more surprising was when I later went over to her younger daughter's house. She had a big dog like a German shepherd. I had heard about him that he had aggression problems and had attacked people before. But he also liked me very much, something the owner said had never happened before with a stranger. Maybe Dutch dogs and cats just like me for some reason. My experience with dogs is very limited and, in fact, I'm allergic to some of them. But I can almost always bond with cats. |

However, they bond in their own way - within the limitations of their own psychology and physiology!!
Do they want you to feed them...sure, the lack of opposing thumb means they can't open cans of food....do they want cuddles and patted....mostly yes on the patting....sometimes a big no on the cuddles....if they got a better offer would they take it....possibly.....which probably undermines their ability to 'love'......
We have two cats....and they're great......throughout my life I've had many more....and have helped feed some strays that just didn't want to become house cats.....so yes, I'm a cat lover...but I don't think they love you back as we understand it!!! |
