I fail. They were talking about St. Paul so I thought they were in MN.

Either way, arent the accents rather similar?

The movie is set in Minnesota and in North Dakota.

And yes, SOME people do speak like that.

My bad, I've never seen the movie.

I assume the accent would be just like any other regional accent (New England, New York, Texas, So Cal, etc.) where there are a few people who fit the stereotype very well, and majority of people have "regular" American accents.

A friend of mine who's from MN says he slips into the accent a bit when he goes back. Met a few people who live in St. Cloud a couple years back and they all had the accent. So I guess that's a yes

Oh ya, you betcha doncha know? We all talk like dat up nord here out by da lake.

We like to go ice fishin' and use da wood chipper.

Lol honestly people here are worse than others. If you get up by Duluth it starts getting more prominent. But to us people from down south sound like they are talking with a mouthfull of water lol.

Mooch

I'm from Duluth, and I don't think I talk like the people in "Fargo" at all. But when visiting Florida two store employees at Bass Central said I had a Canadian accent. Come on!

Anyway, like characatures and many stereotypes, accents are based in reality but greatly exaggerated when imitated. In this movie, like many others, the locals are made to look, act and sound idiotic ... in an endearing way, of course. Just like you can slam anyone on an Internet forum, as long as you put a smiley after your comment.

Being a Virginia man myself, I know what you mean. We have our fai share of crazy accents too. When you start gettin down by that TN border its like a no man's land for accents haha. I have no idea what people are talking about down there

But ya, I love the MN/ND/WI accent

Woah, settle down there, Im not making fun of you guys at all. If anything, I thought the people and locals in the movie were portrayed as good people with a very welcoming and warm spirits. Nothing wrong with that at all IMO. I quite enjoy the accent as Ive said so in this thread. I think you read into this thread the wrong way.
