Do people really quit talkbass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Or just change their user names?

Seems strange to me that people would come here everyday for years and then suddenly just STOP. My memory sucks and I never remember anyone's user name anyhow, but I know there are countless people who used to post here all the time, and they just disappeared. Some got canned, some announced their done-ness with the site, others just vanished.

Anyhow, if you've changed, or know of any people who have changed their names over the past 10 years please fill me in. And if you have any thoughts on why people suddenly quit cold turkey after years with this addiction, share your thoughts on that too.

In short I guess, who's gone - and why?

I've just left other forums after years without saying anything, either because I've lost interest in the subject of the forum or because I got fed up of all the arguing & fighting.

More importantly, why does it matter to you? Or are you just genuinely curious?

Fwiw, I miss the combined wisdom of Eric Albany and Quickie...

Yeah, like you, I occasionally wonder where some prominent users end up, but not enough to dedicate a thread to it.

Last time I heard, Eric was after a number in the LGBT thread...

TB? Just a passing fad I suppose for those that have a few thousand posts, or so. I still enjoy the forum.

Quickie? He was a fun one. Destined to fail from the day he joined.

To answer the question: while I haven't quit, I have left TB for months at a time before. Sometimes, I just get sick of the Internet in general.

I've taken some time off from it from time to time and may do so again soon, but I'm not sure that I can ever totally stop for good. There are too many cool folks here that I enjoy "talking" to.

I dare say that talkbass often quits people.

Gone are the days of the might frenchman Morf or the somewhat angsty Meev!

I've only used one other internet forum regularly, which was around for 5-6 years, but that went downhill and shut down. It had been a tight group of people who participated in the local music scene (mainly alternative stuff, indy all the way to punk and metal). But it just went downhill over the course of 6 months or so, a lot of regulars got put off and the admin eventually gave up and shut shop.

I always wondered what happen to that dude that took everyone's money for a benefit cause (for another bass player that was having a rough time)...

There was a huge thread about it...I think Tom Bowlus got screwed in the deal as well..or something like that...
