Do you call your in-laws "dad/mom?"

If so, how was the transition? Smooth or awkward?

Do you call your own parents "mom/dad?"

Biological are certainly mom and dad. In laws are Bob and Cindy. I asked my father in law what he wanted me to call him when we first got married. He laughingly said "supreme master" and then we agreed on Bob, which is just weird since his name is Steve.

I call my wife's mother "mum". I do it 'cause I like her. Some of her own children call by her first name, and I think that's awful.

I call my mom "Mom" and my father "Dad," though I try to avoid addressing him as such.

I call my mother-in-law "Mom." My would-be father-in-law has been deceased for quite some time. It was a pretty seamless transition...I can't really remember calling her anything else besides "Mom."

My father is alive, and my father in law is dead. My wife calls my dad dad.

My mother is dead, and my mother in law is alive. I call my mother in law mom.

I'm not sure if having one parent each makes the transition more fluid, but it feels pretty natural.

No.

I have 1 mom and 1 dad.

Since we have kids now I do however refer to them as grammie and grandad around the kids.

I don't like the habit of it. I know if we were ever at a family event it would probably hurt my parents feelings if they heard me referring to them as mom and dad.

1. It just doesn't feel comfortable.
2. It doesn't fit my personality.

I've always been a mom & pop person. Parents are mom and pop if I'm part of the family. That even applied to girlfriends parents ( like now ). If they disliked it, I would certainly stop, but that has never come up.

When my wife's parents were alive, neither of us addressed them in person because they weren't worth talking to. The names I called them I can't post here without being banned.

May they forever burn in a lake of fire.

My former mother in law told me to call my former father in law, "father," in Korean, so I did and he completely ignored me. Now I'm divorced and he's dead. But not because of that. Or is it?

Could be entirely because of that...

Heck no. I've got one Mom and Dad. I wouldn't insult my Dad to compare him to my father in law, so if I can help it I don't even address my father in law at all. Mother in law I call by her first name. They are separated, so it's easy to see one and not the other.

This is the second time I've seen this brought up in here. Odd; this is an alien concept to me. I think it's a part of how my family operates, though; my mom has always been either "Mom" or "Auntie Dottie" to a few people who aren't blood relatives.
