Ugh. Once, many years ago, at the urging of my PITA then-girlfriend. Never again.

I was once set up as well... that went considerably better.

no, but I was backed-up by my wife's family when we got into fights before we got married. She would be all pissed off at me, and they would all go in and tell her to get over it and call me back...

Unintentionally once. My wife and I paired up a friend of mine and a friend of hers in our wedding party and they ended up dating on and off again for about three years. They last dated about 15 years ago and to this day neither of them knows what really went wrong because neither feels like they actually broke up. Despite that, both married someone else long ago and have families of their own.

My wife and I have so far managed to avoid creating a situation where they'd both be present but have wondered what might happen if they ever crossed paths again. Would they hook up once last time? Would they leave their current marriages for each other? Would they have a huge fight and finally break up once and for all? Would they engage in some other bizarre, interesting, and potentially Jerry Springer-esqe scenario we haven't thought of yet?

I've been asked by some friends (both male and female) about setting them up with someone else I know, but so far I've avoided doing it intentionally. If it happens on its own OK, but I don't think I want to get into that business. There's too much potential for one or the other of the parties I set up to end up hating me over the horrible choice I made for them. Don't need that.

Other than playing wingman for buddies, I never get involved. It's better that way. Otherwise you inevitably end up being the middle man.

Since I can't even make a match for myself, I have no business trying to make them for others.

Yes!

My soundman is now my brother-in-law. My wife takes all the credit, but had it turned out to be a disaster, I'm sure it would have been my fault.

On two occasions I've not been a matchmaker, but a facilitator to allow the two to meet. No pressure, just making sure the two met, and thought it was fate.

One couple is happily engaged right now, and the other has been involved for three wonderful months now.

I've tried to hook up relatives before but some people think they're too good for incest.

Not intentionally, but I was the link between two female acquaintences and two fraternity brothers. Both marriages are past 20 years - so I did pretty well. Not wanting to screw up that record, I have retired from the matchmaking game.
