In order to unlock online access to my bank account, they want me to submit my SS# online. I am not at all comfy with the idea. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

I don't have a problem if it's a reputable site. I figure I have to give my SS to access my credit report and for things like pensions and IRA's, so doing it through your bank shouldn't be an issue.
What you don't want to do is every enter it after clicking on a link that you're emailed. You want to go to the site yourself. While on the topic of the phone too, you never want to give it if someone calls and asks for it. Most banks will say that they will never ask over the phone. Actually now that I've said that, they may not sort this for you over the phone if you don't want to do it on the site. You may have to go in and sort it in person.

Most account managers have a better system access than a front-page website. I setup every facet of my online banking at the bank, and the site certainly wasn't the same as the commercial front-page.
If the bank is worth you trusting your money with them, then they should be happy to accomodate your concerns. Not like they're the only bank in town.

Again, I am talking about unlocking my online access, which just got screwed up, not doing things to my account from the banker's terminal. These appear to be separate functionality. For that matter, I have been told that the account function I need to perform can only be initiated online by the account holder.
I will talk to the manager yet again but it seems to be useless.

https:// is your friend. | This. Just check the security certificate to make sure everything looks correct and that they use proper strength encryption (128 bit or higher).

Not sure what I will do about the account in question. I will call my branch again tomorrow.

| | | | Yes I have seen this before. It's a verification process. Yes I have sent my SS online. I also did that when I got a credit card.
