Do you find it rude for a husband/wife to "let themselves go"?

Do you think it's rude for a significant other to neglect putting any effort into their health/appearance?

Sometimes the reality of a job, kids, and life mandate that there isn't time left for keeping trim and fit. I'd like to be in better shape, as would my wife, but we still find each other attractive for more reasons than just physical appearance. We make an effort to look the best we can with what we've got to work with, but seeing past the flaws is a part of what makes things work.

there's a difference to not having the time to put a effort in and just not putting the effort in though.

It is rude, unfair to the spouse, and disgusting.

Strong opinion available on request.

Maybe not rude, but inconsiderate?

How is it BS? Ever have a job that doesn't stop when you'd like it to stop? I don't even have kids, but throw kids in a mix like that and you barely have time to do stuff around the house, if you're lucky. I've had weeks where I was working 60 hours and had no time and little will to work out.

Although, on the other hand, I think it's part of human nature or maybe just the culture I've grown up with, but usually most do a sport or two in high school, smaller amount in college. Staying in shape isn't about a healthy lifestyle, but getting laid and attracting a mate. A lot simply get lazy since they're no longer hunting in the field. Game over????? For a lot. The American diet and lifestyle often kick in.

Although, some of us are crazy bikers and think 150 miles a week is a good idea!

Does anyone who has posted got a full time job, partner with a full time job & kids at school age?.
All spare time/cash goes on the kids first - then the parents get the scraps - it's the law & part of being a parent.
If I found a spare 30 minutes in a week and have the choice between going out jogging and practicing bass I'd choose the latter.
I think people should save their opinions about others until they've walked a mile in 'others' shoes.

It can be done. My dad does it and he's going to be 50 this year. He works 50-60 hours/week including Saturday mornings. He owns his home so he has to take care of any repairs, yard work, pool maintenance, etc. He's also remarried and has 2 kids (a 4 and 6 year old). He watches what he eats and works out on a regular basis. He looks like he's in his mid 30s. It helps that he has the equivalent of a small gym in his basement, but hey some people buy a Lakland, some people buy a lat tower.

Do any of you guys who think its "rude" actually have young children?

Its a whole new ball game. Even when I try to do a quick set of 30 situps, my 3 year old is jumping all over me.

I think the key is to try work exercise into your daily routine, like cycling to work.

No, I think its just a part of life. I am not married, but working a full time job half the year, then in school with a part time job for the other half, and I'm just too lazy to work out, though recently I have been putting in an effort to lose weight... just by modifying my eating habits. I have lost about 20 lbs in the last month or two... Working my way to 180 lbs right now! but fitting working out into my time is not always easy, I don't have the motivation... lol

I sound bitter and twisted because I am, I've been on a really strong course of steroids for about 6 months & I've gained about 22 pounds weight despite trying to just eat a couple of pieces of fruit a day to try and keep the weight down - It doesn't work and isn't advised by hospital.
Anyway - chins up - only another 6 months of weight gain to go & then I can try and loose it.

3 high stress 12 hour shifts in a row, one 8, then 2 more 12 hour shifts in a row. If you're doing the math, that was 68 hours in 6 days. I'm a very high octane dude, but long hours and high stress will wipe out the best of us. This doesn't happen to me every week.....but there's always that potential.

This week I've already biked 130 miles and might take it out tomorrow to finish it out with another 30 miles.
