In the community where I live, there are a handful of small locally owned banks. They advertise how friendly their tellers are, how they know you by name when you come in, and how the service you get is personal and much better than the larger banks.
That's all fine and good, but for me, I can not remember the last time I went inside or even through the drive through. We have accounts at a couple different financial institutions, and everything is handled online. I don't even call customer service.
Does anyone go to the bank/credit union on payday anymore and deposit their paycheck, or go talk to a teller to make a withdrawal?

| | | | I go in all the time. Direct deposit is not an option for me, and I receive various other payments several times throughout the month, so I go inside my bank quite frequently. I don't personally like drive-throughs at all. I prefer face-to-face interaction.
Everything else, I do online...but deposits are tough to do that way.

When offered a machine to deposit cash/cheques, I decline and get in the queue for the tellers.

| | | | I do all of my business in my credit union. I only deviated from that just recently with one email I sent them about some goofy fee.
When dealing with money, I'd much rather have it be a face-to-face interaction. |

Direct deposit, check-writing and the occasional depositing of a check or two through the mail covers 99% of my banking activity, and I go online for the rest. I did call them up recently to get my credit card limit raised in advance of a big purchase.

I stop by my local bank to put cash in my son's account fairly often. I like (and don't like) the fact that I don't have to show ID when I make a withdrawl. Plus, some of the tellers are very attractive. I like a woman with money.

When I have direct deposite and online banking I wouldn't go in for much.
When I have renters once a month at least.
Band cash! Well, IIRC there was only one guy who gave us a 1099. There was a lot more to write off.
I also remember doing some job hopping and direct deposite was something you waited for.

The one thing that I really hate about banks in general (at least the ones around me) are the fact that you can never seem to get right in and out of there quickly. It seems like every time I had to go, I would get stuck waiting in line. Not a big deal normally but when you're on your lunch hour or whatever, it can stink.
This is another reason why I really like direct deposit and electronic banking in general.

As for depositing cash, I can do that via ATM or deposit box.

Using the teller service enables access to the funds immediately whereas if I feed it through a machine, I'd have to wait as they hold my cheque for 5 business days and wait for cash to be processed. |

Also, my pay comes in the form of physical checks so I have to go to a (crappy) bank. Also, while I'm in school and spend time in various parts of the country over the course of a year I have to attend one of the big banks and can't wait to bail.
