Do you have a generous employer?

Sign in to disble this ad
This question come up after reading a news article about a company that sold their business and laid off all their employees. Even though the company was in fact closed it still saw to it that every everyone still got a Thanksgiving turkey. Not only that, they divided up 6.6 million in bonuses to their two hundred and sixty something former employees. At the end of the article there was one of the former employees stating that it was a great company and the employer was always very generous.

Now, I'm not trying to start a biatch fest about my employer, but with the holidays already here it just made me think about how they are on the not so generous side. For instance. No turkeys, no Christmas bonuses, not even a Christmas party. In my business the Christmas bonuses are usually pretty small and at the very least an employer will have some kind of an in-house party with pizza or what ever. Not even a token of appreciation from these guys.

So, how are things from your employer around the holidays? Go ahead, rub it in!

I work at a restaurant with a total of about 40 employees (between 2 locations in town) and my boss(es) have always been pretty kind and generous. It's nice now that I'm one of the people that've worked there the longest, so about half of the people of there were trained at least in part by me. We have a nice owner (who lives 20 hours away unfortunately) who buys us donuts in the mornings that she's in town. It's not a bad job for a musician with the flexible schedule. Job security is convinient in this part of the country.

Mine is. I can take any day off with short notice, within reason. We get a Christmas party, we get taken out for breakfast about once a month, we get a "Christmas bonus" really profit sharing only given out at Christmas. Only thing that sucks is that the pay kind of sucks.

I work at a university. The benefits and such aren't bad, but holidays are just days off. At Christmas we will have a potluck - but the department doesn't buy lunch. Amazingly though, professional staff can earn a once-a-year bonus and I got a small one ( about 1.9% of my salary) last year.

My company has been laying off for a year. I've survived 3 rounds of cuts so far.

When you get laid off they give you a week severance for every year you have been with the company.

Having said all this they pay me more than other companies would for what I do. I get to set my own hours and work from home so that's very generous IMHO.

My company is very generous in an industry that is almost extinct here in the U.S.. We can take off on short notice for personal reasons and they trust us not to abuse it. The pay and health benefits are remarkable considering all of our competitors are Asian companies who pay their workers less than 1/10th of what we earn. We get decent Christmas bonuses and our Christmas party has always been fun and we even get to enjoy it "on the clock".

We are a pretty small company with less than 10 workers at any given time but it feels more like a family than a company. If fact, the company owner often has us all over to his place for cookouts and stuff.

Very generous boss.
Can take off as much time as I want, but no work = no pay.
He pays me very well. I am his only employee.
Usually a summer bonus and a Christmas bonus.

Now if only the job wasn't so friggin' hard *or* if I wasn't so friggin' old

My boss's idea of a christmas bonus is to give everyone except the managers christmas day off without pay. Of course, I'm the only one on staff that isn't going to be working the day that christmas falls on this year, so I'm pretty much screwed as is. As far as taking days off, he doesn't care if I switch shifts with someone else, but I'm only allowed to do it once a month, and I have to work a shift before I can take one off.

I'm self employed, with no employees, and I try to be as generous as I can. It's been pretty difficult lately, though.

Since I'm employed by the US gov't, I guess they are generous enough to bail everybody out. I just get paid to do my job.

You think we could consider out yearly pay increase a christmas bonus? Or what about clothing allowance on your enlistment anniversary?

The company I work for is pretty good. The owner refuses to let the employees pay a cent for health and dental insurance so that's a HUGE plus. We do get holiday pay, and my shift (3rd) always has a Christmas party for the shift. The Christmas bonuses aren't much, but it's a bonus. The OWNER is a really great guy, it's the people between the laborers and him that are the ones who will screw you over in a moments notice.

I'm self-employed so everyday is just one big party!

OK, so it's not.

I have been thinking about suing myself to get better working conditions, though. Or maybe I'll just go on strike. That will teach me.
