Thinking about picking up a scanner... anyone use them?

My dad used to have a Bearcat scanner back in the day, I am not bored enough to care who needs an ambulance or who beats their wife in my neighborhood to actually spend time listening to it. |

Occasionally you hear of some cool stuff happening. One of my favourites was a drunk woman in Redfern (dodgy area in Sydney) smashing the windows of every single car that pulled up at the intersection she was at. What a nut job!!!
Also one night there was a drunk dude in a stolen car being chased by several police cars and a police chopper. I was listening in and then the chase actually came right down my street and past my house!!!
Good times.

So you can listen just through your media player, and listen to any police force in the world pretty much (given that someone is streaming it). My dad is an aviation nut and streams the ground and tower frequencies for Kingsford Smith (Sydneys international airport) on the net. He gets quite a lot of listeners.
