It has been brought to my attention that some people are _not_ using time to indicate distance. This comes as a shock to me, as I assumed everyone did it this way.
Explanation: "How far away is your house from here?" "Oh, about ten, fifteen minutes."
"Do you live very far from your folks?" "Nah, they're only about an hour and a half south from here."
Do people actually use units of distance to indicate distance? Weird. |

Like if you asked me how far it was from Toronto to Vancouver I would say about 3500-4000 km. But if you asked me how far it was from my place to the mall, I would say 30 minutes.

Also, it make a lot more sense for water to freeze at 0 and boil at 100, rather than freeze at 32 and boil at 212.

It doesn't really matter how far away somewhere is, what matters is how long it takes you to get there. 15 minutes to work, 10 minutes to Target, a little over an hour to grandma's, 9 hours to Maui, etc. |

lowsound | I'm just yankin your chain; I'm actually quite familiar with the metric system. We use it at work more than we do English units. Celsius makes a heck of a lot more sense than Fahrenheit, though I still have a better idea in my mind of what x degrees F feels like as opposed to C. I think we're one of only two or three countries that hasn't adopted the metric system. Someday we'll learn. |

I measure distance in songs.
"He's about Raining Blood from here."
"That store'll take A Change of Seasons if we leave now, or rush hour traffic will turn it into 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence."
"Oh it's a road trip alright, it's three power metal albums from here." |

Fahrenheit is much better, and I say that as a proud American!
As for distance, I do actually measure it in time. Unless it's something very close, then I'll use miles. For example, my high school is half an hour from my house, but a George's Music is like eight miles from here.
