Do you own any Webkinz(tm)?

Since I posted probably the only Talkbass thread on this subject, and since I've spent too much time at home and not enough time in sleazy bars playing gigs...here it is.

Anyway, if you don't know what Webkinz are, forget it.

If you have kids between about 4 and 12, and you have to supervise their Internet usage, you should know what these are.

Full disclosure: After making me buy her 5 of the things , my 6 y/o daughter gave me one - a bullfrog. His name is Murgatroyd, and he is way cool.

My daughter has a whole slew of the silly things. I try to tell her it's all just a subversive marketing ploy, but she doesn't care.

It's kinda like a cross between Beanie Babies and The Sims.

My students are crazy about them. I used to allow them to have them in class just sitting on the corner of their desks..no harm in that. However I finally banned them after one too many distractions in class and many warnings about playing with them during teaching time. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I'm up there teaching and this girl throws a comb across the room to another student so he could comb the hair of someone else's Webkin.

No Webkinz, until my 4 yo daughter discovers them.

I had 50 Beanies I bought for about $5 each...some idiot bought all but one off me for over 3 grand.

The one I kept is Legs The Frog...he's cool, and I love frogs.

PS...my mom used to say "Heavens To Murgatroyd"
