Do you think performance enhancing drugs should be illegal?

This whole Alex Rodriguez thing has me thinking about the anabolic steroid issue quite a bit.

Do you think steroids should be against the law? Why or why not?

I don't think they should be illegal, because without them, sports would be even less exciting to watch.

Nope. I still think they should be banned from use in professional sports, but that's the business of the sports' regulatory organizations, not the government.

Actually if anything they should make them mandatory. I think we'd all see some prety crazy games then.

I think they should be illegal, not because it simply makes them a stronger/faster/better athlete, but because of the negative health effects many of them have, such as the severe liver damage you can receive from prolonged use of anabolic steroids.

If there are other substances that can provide the same benefits without damaging your health, I think they should be legal. If they're being paid to perform well, and these substances can help them perform well with no/negligible downsides, why not?

I bolded the portion of your argument that is soluble.

While I'm at it, why does the A-Rod stuff excite the OP to the point of this discussion? The coverage on this absolutely pales in comparison to the Bonds circus from 2007. I'd have thought that might have gotten the creative questions going moreso that this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but arn't they already a controlled substance? Meaning that they are illegal without a perscription.

It's up to the professional sports leagues to make them illegal within their own businesses, but in the general population, if you want to ruin your life with steroids, what right does the government have to stop you?

Steroids shouldn't be made illegal. I had a friend recently who needed to be prescribed them for medicinal purposes (and no, it had nothing to do with the gym, but they needed the physical boost after a certain medical condition - I forget what it was now).

It was weakness. I'm almost positive.

as an am boxer, i believe that roids should be illegal. i think athletes should train harder not only because it's the right thing to do, but it also builds character.

Talking Well lets look at it this way

Those drugs eventually lead to growth of breasts and women become more manly. By keeping the against the rules no one can sue anyone for their problems saying "I was pressured" because it is against the law and theyll just get in trouble. And It is just plain retarded. (excuse my french) but if u need performance enhancing drugs to be any good than u were not meant to be an athlete anyway!!!!!!!

It seems that if we were even to allow the public to use them then why not drugs and it is obvious why drugs are not allowed, and DO NOT TRY TO JUSTIFY USE OF DRUGS!!!!!!!!

Those are different kinds of steroids.
