Doctor Who - Vincent and The Doctor

Anybody else see this episode? I just watched it and cried buckets. I'm a dyed in the wool DW fan since the 80s and this has to be one of the greatest episodes ever.

Got it saved to watch, haven't seen it yet, but have been a DW fan for a long time... How do you like Matt Smith's interpretation? He's growing on me...

Well this one certainly seems to be polarising the fans so far! Look forward to hearing your views on it!

Despite initial reservations (Smith is a year younger than me, and it felt really odd to have a younger Doctor), I have to say I have been completely taken with him ever since his first scenes - he's just more 'Doctory' than Tennant and Eccleston put together. Reminds me of Troughton repeatedly, which is a very good thing.

I got started at Dr. #4. I didn't like Eccleston very much, but Tennant was pretty good until the last, just didn't like him at all the last season. I'll try to watch this episode soon and get back to you on it.

I'm a Smith fan. Tennant will always be the best to me but Smith is a good follow up.

Reds do you mind if I make a somewhat spoiler comment? Nothing significant but a little thing I thought I saw that the woman said I was just looking too far into stuff to see it.

I only got into Doctor Who this series, purely by accident, but I love it. I think Smith is brilliant, bringing a kind of old fashioned eccentricity, some great lines ("Don't diss the sonic!") and a bit of madness into the role. The Daleks/WW2 episode was the best so far I think. Although that may have had soemthign to do with laser equipped Spitfires...

Oh, and btw, I'd totally want to put my sonic screwdriver in karen Gillan's Tardis.

Ok, finally watched this episode and I can admit that I was crying at the end of it as well.

Wife, Daughter and I sat down to watch it before this weeks episode and it was amazing. There have been some great stories, but I must say I think this is one of the best! As an Art Major in college some years back I loved the idea of it to begin with, and the way they allowed "Vincent" to describe what he sees was poetry, then the crowning touch in allowing him to be shown that his madness and sight was worth something. It was such a convincing story, that when it was over I had to jump to google to find that painting to make sure it wasn't inscribed in that manner.

The more I watch of Smith the more I think that he is a much better Dr. I don't see Tennant doing any episodes like "The Lodger", and I know the lines are from the writers, but the delivery is so perfect, like Ed mentioned above "Don't diss the sonic", and when trying to figure out the creature, that's the trouble with the impressionists.. Great lines..

So far I think it's one of the best seasons in a long time.

Glad you liked it! I agree that this is the strongest season since the series' return in '05, only one duffer - the Dalek one with the pointless iDalek redesign. Seriously, that's like redesigning the P bass! Sorry EdHunter, know you like that one!

But Spitfires with lasers....

Anyway, the P was redesigned, and now we have the Jazz

I haven't seen it yet (saved it) but I'll likely watch it this evening.
Been a DW addict for eons.

Smith is growing on me but I still think that the two best of all time were Tennant and Tom Baker.

i hate BBC America. you Brits always get the unedited versions weeks before BBC America even announces their airing.

that said, i'm a Tennant guy, and i knew from the first Matt Smith episode that he was going to be a good Doctor. that entire kitchen scene with young Amy was classic!
and Relic, how did you manage to get Vincent and the Doctor?

I torrent them all. I refuse to wait another two weeks to be able to watch them. Well I lie, I had every intention of waiting (I had a week left) for The Eleventh Hour to come on BBC AM and then one night I got bored and decided to download it and next thing I knew I was on Victory of the Daleks.

I'm glad someone else thinks the new Daleks look stupid. I like the coloring scheme but they just look ugly now, that stupid hump on the back drives me crazy.

Out of curiosity what do you think the five things that we're supposed to be looking for this season are? Other than the cracks of course. I have my theory and wanna see if anyone else is thinking the same way.

BBC A was driving me nuts, there was supposed to be a couple ways to spoof your location and watch it streamed on the BBC site, but I could never get that to work right. Got to have my Dr....

I know the crack but there's been a couple episodes when it wasn't there, and it amazed me in the Vincent episode how he saw things that even Amy didn't 'see'...

I was a Tennant fan until the last season and a half or so, then he went way too dark, but I really think that Smith is more Dr like, really reminds me a lot more of Baker who was and still is my favorite..

So far I've come up with;

Cracks
Preception filters (they've been in like every episode, mentioned far more often than the previous seasons)
The doctor revisiting his timeline
Silence falling
Counting down

I'm a big David Tennant fan. Don't care for Matt Smith though he's okay, kind of like Christopher Eccleston was okay.

I quite like the new doctor - there is a very British sense of humour there and I loved the latest one with the comedian James Cordon - the football match was great - really funny!!

I've liked most of the series - but I must say that I actually fell asleep in the Vincent Van Gogh episode - literally !! And I had no desire to watch it again!
