Does anyone else get motion sickness playing video games or watching movies?

I didn't up until around last year. It also depends heavily on the game; I can probably play something like GTA for up to an hour or more before feeling slightly weird. I can only play FPSs like "Black" or "Halo" for about 20 minutes before I reach the breaking-point for vomiting. As for movies and tv, I get sick if it's a first person perspective (shaky camera on shows like COPS) or if I sit up real close to the screen. The strange thing is that I don't get car sick nor sea sick (knock on wood), and work as an EMT (being thrown around in the back of a speeding ambulance, writing up the report while moving, etc., apparently lot's of people, EMTs and patients alike, get really nauseous back there.)

Your thoughts? I have a feeling I may need to down a few Dramimine before I see "Cloverfield".

I get headaches when I watch someone play video games, most of the time it's when my sister is the one who is playing . I don't get it when I play unless it exceeds the recommended 2-3 hours or whatever.

Sometimes, Guitar Hero and Rock Band give me slight visual distortion after playing (everything seems to be coming toward me) and my eyes will get very dry.

The only movie I can think of that has given me motion sickness was the first few minutes of Cloverfield until I got used to the handheld style.

When the Nintendo 64 (I think that is what it was called) came out I bought it and the game Doom (this was my first go into personal gaming gear.) I hooked it up to my 36 inch TV (which I thought was a monster screen back then) and proceeded to play Doom. About 5 minutes later I got so sick I had to stop and walk away.

Unhooked the nintendo and gave it to one of my nephews... haven't played a gaming system since!! Blehhhhhhh...

Probably just as well... I waste time well enough on my own the way it is!

Super Mario Kart on the SNES used to leave me with absolutely blinding headaches and a strong sense of nausea...

I think it had to do with the weird graphics mode they used to get the 3-D effect...

Dude. The first time I played Guitar Hero, I played for a couple hours straight. Watching the notes come flying at me. As soon as I looked away to focus on something else I thought the world was coming to an end. I have to limit myself to 2-3 song chunks now or it takes me a couple hours to be able to focus again.

I get car sick VERY easily. I can't ride in the backseat of a car for more than 15 minutes without wanting to (or actually) puke.


But I don't get sick with videogames or movies typically. Super Mario Galaxy makes me slightly sick at times, as did the movie Cloverfield, but those are exceptions.

Video games yes - anything else ,no. The fact that video games make me sick has probably saved me a lot of time.

Glad I dont get this or I'd never be able to play warsow, a(free lol) oldschool style deathmatch first person shooter that is very movement oriented and is probably about a thousand times faster then halo.
I could see getting headaches though from such video's and video games if the refresh rate or frame rate were too low. Or if the colors were flashing a lot putting a lot of strain on your eyes. But other then that the notion of getting motion sicness from it is something I cant relate to. Especially if you don't experience similar feelings from being in a car.

My girlfriend gets sick playing FPS's. You guys are all light-weights

I dunno if anyone remembers the game, but Descent used to make me a little nauseous if I played it too long with headphones on.

I also can't read while in a moving vehicle. I almost immediately start getting nauseous. This happens in both cars and airplanes. I'm also not a big fan of amusement part rides that keep you upside down for long periods of time (like the ones that are just giant pendulums).

I don't get motion sickness playing videogames. I do occassionally get motion sickness while sitting sideways in a dark aircraft cabin, in the summer, flying at about 1000' in moderate turbulence while looking at a Radar screen.

I should also mention that I saw an IMAX movie when I was 12 that had something to do with roller coasters. Let's just say it moved me.

I used to (and still sometimes do) get DIMS (Doom Induced Motion Sickness).

I don't get motion sickness. But if I play a video game and jump from a very tall height, my knees physically get weak and my stomach turns.

GH/Rock Band gives me a headache because of eye strain.

The only thing that has ever made me feel slightly queesy is Cloverfield.
And sitting in the first row watching the first 30 minutes of Bourne Ultimatum.

lol elebits is by far the worst just because when one person controls the movement and the other players control the looking you can't see ****
