Does anyone else hate Guitar Hero as much as I do?

Im sorry but I kinda have to vent. I cannot believe this game even makes a dime, its as close to playing a musical instrument as DDR was to dancing. Is our society becoming so lazy that actually sitting down and learning an instrument has become such a stainuaous and unrewarding activity? Im no professional, mainly a hobbiest when it comes to playing bass, but I cannot see my self actually sitting down and playing this game for any amount of time. I was at walmart the other night and a friend of mine (who has not ear for music what so ever) says "awsome, they have guitar hero, you will love this game since you play guitar" I played it for two seconds and wanted to rip the cord out of the wall smash that piece of crap plastic guitar through the tv screen where it belonged!

Instead I handed the guitar to my buddy and said there is nothing musical about that game what so ever, as a matter of fact I am dumber for having played it. And one other thing that gets my goat, now Fender is making these crappy plastic controllers and marketing them on commercials *** I think the southpark from a couple of weeks ago says it all, sometimes I fear for my future if this is what we are reducing ourselves to.

"I cannot believe this "game" even makes a dime"

That's what it is, a game, a fun party game, that can be played alone too. Just like the eyetoy got people into that whole field.

It's a game, nothing more, its easy to play and fun. People might not want the hassle or have the time to learn a real instrument, possibly not even afford it. Guitar hero is a way for people to have fun with some familiar songs, its a game, that's what games are for.

I don't see any gun makers ranting about how unrealistic films or games are, about that if you shot a double barrel shotgun from the side of your hip, the force of the gun pushing backwards would break or rip your fingers from their sockets, because they realise that that's what they are, games and films.

People arent reducing themselves to anything. I play guitar and bass, much more bass of course, but I play guitar hero too. As a matter of fact I completed GH3 with no failed songs on expert, minus through the fire and the flames which i done on the second try. But I realise , its a GAME. If I want to create music, I play an instrument, if I want a laugh with some friends , I play guitar hero.

I wish they would make a game that you could use a real guitar or bass with. My son is a good guitar player and IMHO, he's waisting a lot of time with GH

IT'S JUST A VIDEO GAME!

It's something you can pick up and play with friends and have some laughs.

There are more important things to care about.

Why? Because he thinks the game is fun?

We also realise its a GAME and somehow that makes us losers? Shut the **** up and get a grip. It's a game for a laugh, we all admitted that. So stop the idiotic posts about how you hate us for admitting the truth and speaking our minds.

If this is such a major part of your life that you feel the need to **** people off at every post they put up towards something you don't like, then you should just go jump in front of a truck. There's more important crap in the world that a few guys liking to play guitar hero.

I think we all understand its a game and was meant to be fun, like any video game. The only difference i see is that younger people will play this or garage band instead of actually sitting in the basement or the garage jamming with their buddies, which can be just as fun and a better learning experience. Plus with some of these systems costing a fortune I dont see why someone couldnt buy a Squire and a little combo amp for the same price. Plus some kid may have talent and be the next great but instead he's sitting in front of the tube clicking on a plastic guitar not realizing his or her potential. I dont know what its like in Scotland, so i cant comment, but here in the states kids are killing eachother and sometimes getting alot of practice on realistic video games. Thats just my view, so anyone out there can run with it or give their opinions....

Maybe games like Guitar Hero will inspire kids to pick up an instrument? I see it as a positive.

If the kids didn't pick up an instrument first, then they weren't going to anyway. Plus, as they realise how unaccurate the game is, as they will do, I mean I doubt them playing it for years, they will probably move on to buy an instrument.

Keith - GH has made me explore music such as buckethead's and hence now branched off into other master guitarists like Satriani and such. I now have both of their discographies and have also nearly completed my Dream Theater discography, I saw them from a link at the side of a buckethead video, go figure. I certainly see it as positive. Plus it takes kids away from that stupid 'club' music and into more mainstream rock/metal, which is also rather good to know.
