| | | | Both are stupid, but family guy is stupid and insulting. And the simpsons always end the show with good moral values if you pay attention well. family guy not so much.

Episodes from about the third season up until a little before 300 were pure gold. They surpass any cartoon show out there. |

The voice acting in The Simpsons is technically less shrill.

Family Guy is pretty much a ripoff of The Simpsons, and a lot of their humor is outrageous just for the sake of being outrageous, and not particularly clever. Don't get me wrong, I like FG somewhat, and I do watch it occasionally and can get some laffs out of it, but, IMO, The Simpsons is a much better show.

I use to like The Simpsons when I was a kid, but either the show started getting worse or I simply grew out of it. The older seasons still make me laugh, though.
I like Family Guy a decent amount, but it's also gotten worse in recent years. |

I just don't get into Family Guy. I didn't realize exactly why until South Park took them on; Trey and Matt's criticisms were just spot-on. The Simpsons has gone downhill, but from a very high peak. These days: South Park>Simpsons>Family Guy. I also like the little I've seen of Squidbillies.

The Simpsons is one of my favorite shows of all time, and definitely my favorite animated show. To me, nothing beats the formula that they came up with for cartoon comedy.
I think it is better than Family Guy by leaps and bounds.. Family Guy is funny and I enjoy it for what it is, but it's definitely a more random and outrageous for the sake of being absurd. Family Guy also definitely takes a lot from The Simpsons, such as some of the randomness, the musical bits, the characterizations, story lines.. it's bound to happen, which I understand, but it shows in some episodes.
Plus, there's a reason The Simpsons has been around for 20+ years. I don't think Family Guy will make it nearly that long, not to mention how many shows Seth MacFarlane has been doing. I watched a little bit of American Dad, but couldn't even bring myself to watch The Cleveland Show. |
