Does being friendly or "talkative" in email make you come across as weird?

This in regards to emailing with someone who is not necessarily a close friend or acquaintance.
The Missus claims that being friendly and chatty makes you come across in a negative, annoying way and emails regardless should virtually always be short and to the point.
I counter that taking a few extra minutes and adding some detail, maybe some appropriate humor makes you seem more real and friendly.
I'm actually thinking she's right at this point though.

Sometimes I think everything I do makes me seem creepy.

But yeah, short curt emails seem to be the norm. Makes you seem busy, normal. If it's for business then don't chat.

If you're starting a new personal relationship then by all means chat it up.

I think it depends on the context. My professional emails tend to be terse. I like to stick to facts and actionable items.

Outside of work emails will vary depending upon the recipient and subject matter.
